A new price for a new era of Nintendo gaming
Nintendo has fully revealed the Switch 2, and now we wait to buy it — if we can afford it. The new console will launch on June 5, 2025 for $449.99 for the console alone, and $499.99 in a bundle with the new Mario Kart World.
This is a departure from the $299.99 price point that the original Switch launched at, and above the $399.99 that many analysts believed would be the direction.
Either way, the new pricing may be due to the tariffs that are imposed on imported goods… we’ll NEVER KNOW (although it may also be because Nintendo has a more expensive device to manufacture). Mario Kart World on its own will be prices at $79.99, so this is a $30 savings and likely a way for Nintendo to push players towards the $499 bundle to help offset the tariff bump.

Either way, the pricing is all over the board around the world, with Japan getting a lower price point at 49,980 Yen for the Japanese language only version but then charging an extra 20,000 Yen for the multilingual version. Australia, Canada and Europe’s pricing is also sporadic. This is an expensive device, for Nintendo (but still less expensive than a PS5 or Xbox Series X).
Preorders go live across retailers on April 9th, but some fans can be lucky to grab the device through Nintendo’s own website. In their “How to Buy” link, Nintendo Switch Online members can get priority ordering access if they’ve been members for a year prior to today, if they’ve had 50 hours of play time and if they’ve opted in to share gameplay information with Nintendo.
Dolla dolla bill, y’all!
