Kirby Air Riders comes to Switch 2 this year

Masahiro Sakurai directing the return to Kirby’s race world

Kirby Air Ride first launched on the GameCube waaaay back in 2003. The last 20 years have seen Masahiro Sakurai shift over to Kid Icarus and Smash Bros games, leaving Kirby in the past. But he always had a soft spot for the little pink hero.

Just last year, when Sakurai posted his final game development tutorial video on his YouTube channel, he noted that he had a new game pitched to Nintendo that we was working on. While the details were non-existent, many fans thought that it was maybe more Smash Bros or Kid Icarus. It’s not. It’s Kirby Air Riders!

There is still zero information about Air Riders, but the original game was definitely loved by many. The only thing we do know is that Kirby will be zipping along on his star machine as he races against pals, and that the game will actually launch exclusively for Switch 2 later this year, 2025.

We’re expecting to find out more later this year, probably in another Direct, but who knows. Nintendo and Sakurai can be mysterious.
