Summer Game Fest is back again in June

This year’s SGF will take place during a huge year of gaming

Summer Game Fest has grown as an event each year, and for 2025 it looks to finally help fill the hole of the missing E3 and associated events.

Geoff Keighley and the event organizers revealed the news this week that the 2025 show will now become more of a mini-expo than before, featuring additional resources for the industry. It all kicks off on Friday, June 6 (2-4PM PT/5-7PM ET) with the annual 2-hour showcase at the YouTube Theatre. Tickets will become available for fans this Spring. The show has usually dropped some massive reveals, rivaling the company’s Game Awards showcase in scope of announcements. This will be followed by the Day of the Devs stream, which traditionally focuses on smaller and indie games.

Then from June 7-9 SGF will once again host an in-person Play Days event for media and content creators to get hands-on with many of the announcements as well as other upcoming games from more than 40 publishers. We attended last year and noted how incredible the projects were, getting to go hands-on with so many fantastic games (many of which ended up on our GOTY lists). New this year is a B2B industry thought leader event. This event, hosted by Chris Dring (formerly of GamesIndustry.biz) will “feature voices from gaming, entertainment and beyond for discussions about the changes, challenges and opportunities ahead.” One of the benefits of past expos was the business side, where companies, leaders, developers and more could interact to form partnerships and discuss issues facing the games industry. That disappeared since the COVID pandemic in 2020, so this new addition could prove beneficial.

It’s certainly a lot of great stuff happening in and around Summer Game Fest this year. It’s especially important since Nintendo is launching its Switch 2, Microsoft is shifting its direction towards putting its games on more platforms, Sony’s PlayStation is likely heading into its twilight years, and the PC & mobile markets are changing almost hourly.
