The next big Pokémon game now has a late 2025 release date
During today’s Pokémon Day Direct, Game Freak finally gave an update on Pokémon Legends: Z-A. The game still has a 2025 release date, but it’s been pushed back from Spring to Late 2025.
The game will fully take place in Lumiose City, as our playable character arrives to take on the many challenges in the town and work their way up the ladder. The trailer shows running in streets, on rooftops, and in special “Wild Zones” where Pokemon can live and thrive in their native environments.
Our herp will even be staying in the city’s main hotel as they meet and battle other trainers in town.
Pokémon catching is a lot like Legends: Arceus in that we can just throw a Pokeball and hope to catch a little monster, but if they’re too strong we can have our partner Pokémon wear them down first. Battles will now also include proximity attacks and effects, so that Pokemon need to be a certain distance away for specific movesets. They’ll also be able to Mega Evolve in these battles for even more powerful blasts.
The game is scheduled for late 2025, and though it was announced initially as a Switch title we’d have to imagine that this will also be receiving some sort of Switch 2 version or compatibility as well. That late 2025 push puts it almost after the end of the OG Switch’s lifecycle.
