People Are Saying: Nintendo will reveal the Switch 2 on Thursday

After supposed leaks, the Switch’s successor could be officially shown this week

The last week brought Switch 2 rumors to a fever pitch as accessory-makers announced products that could work with Nintendo’s upcoming platform successor, as other products popped up in store databases, as motherboards flew around, and even as software was starting to leak out. Nintendo last mentioned the “successor to the Nintendo Switch” back in May 2024 after their fiscal year was over and because fans be pestering them. The main takeaway was that the product would be revealed before the end of this fiscal year, which concludes at the end of March 2025.

Well, it’s January of that fiscal year. Stuff has been leaking drop by drop for over a year and a half now, with a deluge really beginning in September of last year. Nintendo has always had a schedule in mind, and that was definitely going to be after the holiday rush (you do not show off a new piece of hardware and sacrifice sales), so no matter what and when things leaked wouldn’t affect the news. Here at SideQuesting for the last year we had talked about mid-to-late January being the most probably time for a teaser reveal and Feb/March for an all-out expose or Direct — it’s the smartest and easiest way to debut this — and now that seems to be lining up with what others are hearing too.

On his latest podcast, “famed” gaming influencer/leaker/yada yada NateTheHate talked about the Switch 2 and how he had heard that this is the week of the reveal, with Thursday January 16th as the day. That’s just a few days from now! According to Nate, the reveal will focus “almost exclusively on the console itself” without much of a game presence. This may be like how the original Switch was revealed, with the wonderful rooftop parties and backseat Mario Karting. He goes on further to say that a more proper showcase for games will take place in late February/early March. This also leads towards a launch in May or June.

Website VideoGamesChronicle have corroborated the comments with information that they had similarly received.

Other information that TheHate revealed was that several third party games were ready to be ported to the Switch 2, especially from Microsoft. These include:

  • Halo: The Master Chief Collection (MS)
  • Microsoft Flight Simulator (MS)
  • Assassin’s Creed Mirage (Ubisoft)
  • Assassin’s Creed Shadows (Ubisoft)
  • Metal Gear Solid Delta (Konami)
  • Final Fantasy VII Remake (Square Enix)
  • Final Fantasy VII Rebirth (Square Enix)

This sounds fun! It does! But until it actually happens it’s all just a rumor and Nintendo could change their minds in a microsecond, no matter what people are saying.
