Yakumo takes the reigns in the next big Ninja Gaiden
During today’s Xbox Developer Direct, Team Ninja & Koei Tecmo revealed yet another Ninja Gaiden game was on the way this year. We just recently found out about Ragebound, a more classic 2D take on the series, and now we have the next 3D game. Ninja Gaiden 4 will finally be a return to the world that we last visited in 2012’s games on the Xbox 360 and PS3 — it’s wild to think it’s been that long!
Anyhoo, Ninja Gaiden 4 stars a new ninja, Yakumo, who wants to follow in Ryu Hyabusa’s footsteps. In the game Yakumo must traverse through a Tokyo entrenched by darkness and growing darker, and while Ryu will also play his part in the story it’s unknown yet what his motives are. The game is being developed alongside PlatinumGames, and aims to mix the challenge of fan favorite Ninja Gaiden 2 with the speed and fluidity of Platinum’s work. This is perhaps best shown as Yakumo incorporates something known as the Bloodbind Ninja Nue Style, a method of taking on multiple enemies at once.
The new game is scheduled for 2025 on Xbox, PlayStation and PC platforms, and day 1 on Game Pass, and is being published through Xbox Game Studios. During the presentation, Koei Tecmo also revealed Ninja Gaiden 2 Black, an updated version of NG2 that incorporates improved visuals, controls, and quality of life improvements — and it’s available today.
