Time to go Spacebusting with Sony’s masters of action adventure
We were wondering what kind of game that Naughty Dog would create next, but we had no idea they would go this far… into space! During the Game Awards, the PlayStation studio helped close the show with a mysterious trailer that featured a look into the upcoming project.
Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet is set thousands of years into the future with the backdrop of the wild west of space. People are trying to make money out here in the cosmic wilderness, and that includes bounty hunter Jordan A. Mun, who’s setting out on a mission that will take her to a place that no one has escaped from in 600 years.
But it pays well!
Though the trailer is more thematic and action-oriented — a laser sword! yeehaw! — Naughty Dog claims the game will include the trademark narrative and emotional aspects of their pedigree. Especially interesting to me the intentional future 90s aesthetic, mixing newspapers and Compact Discs and sneakers with the hyper technology of the far future. Listen, I get it, physical media is still cool, but I’m not sure a CD will last that long — have you looked at your Ace of Base collection? That CD is blistering now.
Anyhoo, the game has been in development since 2020 for the PlayStation 5, but there are no details on any release date yet. With the PS5 Pro officially out, and this generation arguably on its back half, it’ll be interesting to see if this stays on the current gen or shifts over to something else.
