Nintendo Music streaming app announced for game soundtracks

Now it’s ALWAYS Wii Shop Wednesday

Nintendo has just shadow dropped a brand new piece of software, and it may be one of its best ideas in a long time. The Nintendo Music app was revealed today, and focused on streaming music and soundtracks from several Nintendo games. The titles feature across Zelda, Mario, Star Fox and more, and even include Wii menu music. The Wii Shop theme lives!

To use the app, listeners will first need to have a Nintendo Switch Online account (individual or family) to log in. Once in the app they’ll be able to explore music from the games, including themed playlists — all of Peach’s hits? Yoshi themes? Sure! There are options to build playlists and even block out music from games to prevent spoilers. Haven’t finished Ocarina of Time? Don’t worry, it won’t play those songs until you’re ready. And, if you’re like us and want to listen to the Wii Shop menu on repeat, then the app will even offer the option to extend the length of many of its tunes up to an hour, thanks to some great mixing by the producers.

The list of soundtracks is a little sparse right now but still includes dozens of hours of listening, with more soundtracks set to join in the future. We reckon that Nintendo can really stretch this out over the years, and even maybe hop into things like live music and podcasts.

The app is available now on iOS and Android for your listening pleasure.
