Platforming across Japan into our Western hearts next month
Way back in 2023 Good Feel Games developed Bakeru, a spiritual successor to Goemon, and released it in Japan. The game looks delicious back then, but we in THE WEST were left out in the cold. Now, the developers, alongside Spike Chunsoft, have announced that Bakeru is finally hitting our English-language Switches and PCs in September.
The game, a 3D action-platformer, takes place in an alternate reality Japan, with worlds and stages designed around each of the country’s 47 prefectures. A nasty demon has plotted to conquer the world and it’s our hero’s job to stop them. That’s not necessarily a novel idea, but the gameplay is what makes this experience special. Our hero’s only weapons include a drum and the ability to transform into characters with unique powers, so hopping back and forth between forms becomes a necessity.
It looks good, and had received praise in its original release. It should spark some joy when it lands on Switch and PC via Steam on September 3rd in the US and Western markets.
