SDCC 24 Trailer Roundup: Doctor Who, Star Trek, The Penguin and more grace our weekend

Comic-con blesses our eyeballs and earballs

San Diego Comic Con is well underway, and it’s brought with it some exciting reveals and trailer for upcoming movies and shows that we’re looking forward to. We know you’re eyes deep in watching the Olympics so we won’t waste your time — here are some of our favorite trailers so far!

Star Trek: Section 31

The upcoming movie is sort of a dark take on Star Trek, as Michelle Yeoh takes her Discovery character and leads a sort of Suicide Squad of the Academy’s baddest folk. It arrives on Paramount+ sometime soon.

Star Trek: Lower Decks

Lower Decks has been a fun, charming animated show, and it’s finally coming to an end. The trailer for its final, fifth season is now here before the October 24th return.

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds

Strange New Worlds left Season 2 on a bit of a cliffhanger, so of course Season 3 will jump right in to Captain Pike trying to pick up the pieces. It’s back in 2025 on Paramount+.

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power

Rings of Power Season 2 lands on August 29 on Prime, and it’s allllll about the return of Sauron. And finally those rings. Of power! Yeehaw!

Doctor Who 2024 Christmas Special

I’m VERY GLAD that Russell T Davies brought back the Christmas specials, and this year’s looks like it’s going to be hella fun. Nicola Coughlan is on Who! LET’S GOOOO!

In more Doctor Who news, the BBC and Davies officially announced their next spin-off series, The War Between The Land And The Sea, that will focus on Unit and the return of the Sea Devils. No release date yet for the 5-part series.

Like a Dragon: Yakuza

This went from being announced to getting us excited in record time, and NOW THERE’S A TRAILER.

The Penguin

Seeing Colin Ferrell’s transformation into the Penguin has been incredible. He was fantastic in The Batman as a sort of bit player, so now getting a full show built off of the character may be a surprise hit. The show lands on September 19 on Max.

Creature Commandos

DC Studios may not technically be at Comic-con, but they’re sending some more hits our way with the reveal trailer for Creature Commandos. It streams on Max in December.
