Kick, punch, and do some cranes against enemies in new games
Within hours of each other we were treated to news of a couple of classic properties coming back to our eyes (and thumbs).
Growing up with The Karate Kid in the 80s, we’ve been huge Cobra Kai fans for the last several years. There’s a new season of the show on the way soon, and now we have word that we can relive the original trilogy of films via the magic of video games. The Karate Kid: Street Rumble is a pixel-based scrolling beat ’em up, meant to evoke the late 80s/early 90s era of arcades that we loved while at the same time bringing some modern touches. The game will let us relive some key moments and locations from the films, from the All Valley Tournament to heading to Okinawa, as we take on rivals like Johnny Lawrence and John Kreese. The game is co-op, and we can have a friend join us as we play as characters like Daniel and Mr Miyagi.
The Karate Kid: Street Rumble is developed by GameMill and arrives on all modern platforms on September 20th.
But wait, there’s more!
While we watched The Karate Kid way back in the day, we lived out the fantasy by playing Double Dragon. And now, there’s a NEW Double Dragon game on the way.
Yes, yes. We know. There have been a billion new Double Dragon games and they keep trying to bring them back, to varying degrees of success — this one is going to push them back into 3D. Double Dragon Revive is a new take on the series; developed by Yuke’s this game really leans into the classic brawler genre, albeit with a modern visual style and maybe a few more fighting moves.
And that’s all we really know besides a snazzy trailer. The game will land on PS5, Xbox Series and PC in 2025.
