Weekend Trailers: Venom, Alien, Arcane and new movie news, too

Get ready for the geekend with some trailer viewing

We’re coming up on mid-Summer here in North America and that means that the kids are out of school, vacations are happening, and (thanks to Inside Out 2) movie theaters are packed again. And trailers. Lots of trailers! Trailers are dropping not only for movies and TV this year but also for 2025.

Grab that popcorn (or whatever you’re eating for lunch) and let’s enjoy some screen time.

Venom: The Last Dance

It’s the final Venom movie (maybe) and it looks to be spanning the universe a bit more. Will it try to tie in to the MCU again? Or will this stay in the Sonyverse? Who knows. The Venom films have been popcorn fun, without worrying too much about deep plots, which is kind of what we all need right now.

Also, there’s a Venom horse in this one.

The film arrives in theaters in October.

Alien: Romulus

The Alien series has been all over the place, from horror to action to symbolism to world-building. The next film will go all the way back to the horror side, which looks like it brings that shudder-inducing tingle when we’re in a dark theater. Sweet! Alien: Romulus arrives in August.

Deadpool & Wolverine

The new Deadpool film arrives in July, and though the trailers have been poured over for months we finally have a new clip, one of the bros fighting a wild incarnation of Sabretooth. It’s Tyler Mane, who played the character in the original film and then was replaced forever. Man, they’re going into the wayback machine for this film.

Heretic

I never thought about Hugh Grant in a horror film, but perhaps makin him the main antagonist is a good idea. He’s starring in A24’s upcoming Heretic, which arrives in August, and looks TENSE.

Nosferatu

The original Nosferatu is a classic vampire horror film that still creates nightmares. With a modern version from Robert Eggers now coming December, Bill Skarsgård is taking the role of Count Orlok — but we don’t see him in this trailer. We just know he’s coming. And we’re FREAKED.

Arcane Season 2

The first season of Arcane was an animation delight. The visual quality, the soundtrack and mixing, and the plot actually made League of Legends coherent for us non-fans, and when it finished we were immediately asking about Season 2. Well, it’s arriving in November, here’s the trailer, and it looks great.

Tales of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

TMNT: Mutant Mayhem was an awesome film last Summer, mixing phenomenal art and acting with a truly and surprisingly great story. A sequel may be a ways off, but Nickelodeon is pushing out a full animated series in the meantime. Tales arrives on August 9 on Paramount +.

Borderlands

We may not have a new trailer for the movie yet, but we do have a clip of Borderlands. It’s chaotic, as one would expect from the IP, but with a lot of style. The film hits theaters in August.

Angry Birds 3 is on the way, not that SEGA owns the franchise, so expect them to really milk it. The film has gone into production, with Jason Sudeikis reprising his role as Red. No release date yet.

Shigeru Miyamoto himself tweeted out the date of the Super Mario Bros Movie sequel: April 3, 2026 in the US and April 24 in Japan.

And, just a couple weeks before that, the new Street Fighter movie will hit theaters on March 20, 2026, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
