Weekend Trailers: Rings of Power, Tomb Raider, House of the Dragon and more!

The Summer movie trailer blitz is in full swing

Summer has kicked off (at least weather-wise) and movies and TV shows are starting up their Summer seasons — and we’re getting teases for things coming later in the year, too. What a time! And that’s why we’re posting some of our favorites right here, right now, to get you all juiced up for what’s to come.

Let’s Gooooooo (to the streaming service of choice)!

Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft is an upcoming Netflix animated series that picks up right after the most recent “Survivor” game trilogy. It has a release date now: October 10th.

Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power is back for a second season. The latest trailer shows us all kinds of chaos as Sauron re-emerges to take his power to the world. The second season arrives on August 29 on Prime.

Speaking of medieval-ish battles and magic and monsters, House of the Dragon Season 2 is back in just a couple of weeks, on June 16, and HBO has dropped a big trailer showing the conflict… and DRAGON FIGHTS.

We’ve spoken a little bit about Francis Ford Coppola’s Megalopolis in the past, but we didn’t quite know what the movie was about. Cut to now, with a big new trailer, and, uh, we still don’t know? It’s dividing preview audiences, though, which is a sure sign of the internet discourse to come. It still has no release date, either.

HBO’s upcoming Dune: Prophecy prequel series takes place about 10,000 years before the birth of Paul Atreides, which takes place 20,000 years into humanity’s future. The whole Dune timeline is wild and I don’t know how that works, but I do know that the show will follow the beginnings of the Bene Gesserit and their cult-like plan to take over the universe with perfect offspring. Cool! The show arrives on Max this Fall.

The Umbrella Academy‘s final season is almost here, and Netflix has dropped a trailer that shows their crazy multiverse and time travelling adventure coming to a close. The final season lands on August 8.

Ultraman: Rising looks like a trip. It focuses on the Japanese superhero in his new role: parenting a baby kaiju. Yes, it looks as bonkers as it sounds mand we’re all here for it. It arrives on Netflix on June 14.

There’s a Dead Cells show on the way! Dead Cells: Immortalis is being developed by a French animation studio and will arrive there on June 19th, but there are no plans yet to bring it West… or at least no announced plans yet.

As a huge fan of the original, the latest trailer for Beetlejuice Beetlejuice is hitting all of the notes for me so far: returning characters + returning sets + new characters + ACTUAL NEW STORYLINES AND NOT RETREADS OF THE ORIGINAL. Whew! The full trailer is here, and the film hits theaters in September.

The original Moana was a terrific animated film, with a great story and equally great characters and music. Now the sequel is on the way, later this year, and follows the titular hero as she looks to unite her people across all of Oceania. Moana 2 arrives November 27.

There’s a lot of Minecraft going around right now, what with it’s 15th anniversary and all, and Netflix and Mojang have just revealed that an animated series is on the way (at some point)
