The Perfect Dark reboot is still real and it looks real good

I hope they can pull this off

I played a ton of Perfect Dark on the N64 — it was a better game than Rare’s other big shooter of the time, Goldeneye, and included technology and a plot and action that set it apart from other early FPS games. There have been other Perfect Dark games, but none of those matter now, because the *NEW* Perfect Dark looks absolutely awesome.

If it lives up to the trailer, that is.

Revealed during the Xbox & Bethesda Showcase 2024, the new game is being developed by The Initiative and Crystal Dynamics, alongside others, to push the near future spy/alien thriller from high concept to execution. In this first trailer (gameplay!!) we see Joanna Dark not only shooting, but also running, jumping, and using technology to her advantage. Set in Cairo the trailer shows Dark running through the city as she gives chase to enemies, traversing different heights as she tries to get the advantage and get to her mission locations.

And the game will be mission-based, focusing on single player first, and giving players the opportunity to take the tasks on how they see fit. Want to sneak? Do it. Shoot your way through? Yeah, why not. Run away, or hack in, or take an alternate path? YUP. That’s it.

There’s no release date set for Perfect Dark, but when it does it’ll arrive on Xbox, Game Pass and PC.
