The chainsaw-wielding cheerleader’s adventure shows a bit more modern influence
Lollipop Chainsaw is a wildly fun action game from the brains of Suda51 and James Gunn (for real, THAT guy). Originally released in 2012, the game featured a wonderfully gory experience that took a pop culture influence and mixed it with zombies and high schools. Imagine carrying your boyfriend’s head on your waist! The comedy gold.
This updated version doesn’t drastically re-do the visuals, instead choosing to clean them up and update the textures and images. It’s not a fully remade experience, but a sort of ultimate director’s cut. Bringing it up to modern HD & 4K standards helps, too, as the zombies end up looking extra gross.
The game will allow players to switch between classic mode and a new RePOP mode, which adjusts the difficulty spikes and adds a pop-art filter for certain battle effects.
SUDA51 and James Gunn don’t have anything to do with this latest version, however — it’s an updated team of devs (some old, some new) putting this together.
Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP arrives September 25, 2024, for PS5, Xbox Series, Switch and Steam.
