The event returns to show off some new gaming magic
Boy, is Microsoft happy that the Activision acquisition went through. A big chunk of its earnings this past quarter was due to money coming in from the games and services run by ActiBlizz, and so it’ll continue to lean on the products from its new subsidiary as much as possible — including during its annual showcases.
Announced earlier this year, Xbox finally gave a date for its annual big Summer showcase: June 9 at 10AM PT/1PM ET. The event will be a pre-recorded stream, much like the last few years, with opportunities to be there in person to watch the stream at XBox FanFest in Los Angeles.
The event will give updates on games like Avowed, which is still due this year, alongside rumors of a new Gears of War game. This is also likely where we’ll see the next iteration of Xbox hardware, with the leaked images of a digital-only Xbox Series X propagating around the web a few weeks ago. And, it may be where we hear about the fabled portable Xbox initiative that’s been rumored, too.
The Showcase will be followed by a [REDACTED] event, which is totally the next Call of Duty game. Black Ops: Gulf War is in production and will be the next game in the series, and it may be teased within Warzone later this month (May) before a full reveal in June.
And finally, there’s Spyro. We’ve heard rumblings in the backalleys of reddit and resetera and video podcasts of a new Spyro game in the works, which would be a swell reveal if true.
Anyhoo, watch the event across social media and video on June 9th at the links below:
