Time to book your video gaming days off, friends
With Winter now over (GOOD RIDDANCE!) we’re fully into the hype buildup for Summer, and that means SUMMER GAMING NEWS SEASON! There’s no more E3 (RIP) but there’s plenty to take its place. And now we have dates!
Summer Game Fest
SGF has slowly become the premiere event for gaming at the beginning of the season, and this year the show and its Play Days will take place starting on June 7th. The live Summer Game Fest will use two hours to showcase games across a variety of platforms. We get some cool announcements each year, so we’re hoping for more again in 2024.
This year’s event will once again be at the YouTube Theater in Inglewood, with tickets going on sale to the public on May 1st at 9AM PT/12PM ET on Ticketmaster. The event will be followed by Play Days, the two-day event for Media and Press to get their hands on some of the biggest upcoming games.
More info can be found at the Summer Game Fest website.
IGN Live
IGN has been doing their Summer of Gaming since 2020, collecting announcements and live shows across the length of the Summer. Now the company has announced IGN Live, an in-person event for press and fans taking place in early June in Los Angeles that will include live shows, parties, panels, hands-on and more.
Info is lite, but fans are encouraged to check out the IGN hub for more as it’s posted.
Ubisoft Forward
Ubisoft has revealed that its annual Ubisoft Forward event is back for another round. The mega-publisher has announced the event will once again take place on the Monday of VIDEO GAME WEEK, June 10. Last year the company showed off Prince of Persia, Assassins Creed Mirage, and Star Wars Outlaws, and this year should see more AssCreed, Star Wars, and potentially a Prince of Persia rogue-like by the Dead Cells team. Maybe! Who knows. We’ll find out June 10th.
Rumored Events
Call of Duty – May
Rumors of a Call of Duty: Black Ops Gulf War reveal in May are heating up.
Xbox Showcase – June
Each year, Microsoft holds an Xbox showcase on the Sunday of VIDEO GAME WEEK, and this year will likely be no different. Gears of War 6, Avowed, and maybe even Fable are all rumored for a possible JUNE 9TH event.
PlayStation – May
Sony has been hosting a showcase at the end of May recently, so we expect something similar this year.
Nintendo – June?
We don’t know what Nintendo will do, but last year the company held a Direct in the middle of June after all of the other gaming news was done. Mario Wonder, baby. Anyhoo, there’s a new Switch on the way eventually, but the company needs to reassure fans of what will keep them buying and playing before then. Expect something in the middle of June again, hopefully to give us a reason to power up our OG console one last time in 2024.
Square Enix – June?
Last year SqueEnix used a June event to focus on Final Fantasy XVI, which was a week or so away from release. The company is set to launch Final Fantasy XIV Online’s massive Dawntrail expansion at the beginning of July, so perhaps they’ll do something similar for this, too.
