It’s Super Mario’s WORLD on tap
Nintendo celebrated MAR10 DAY 2024 by announcing something that we all knew was going to happen: a sequel to the Super Mario Bros Movie is on the way. While not giving out too much information, Nintendo’s Shigeru Miyamoto revealed the news in a short video celebrating the day. The movie will once again be produced alongside Illumination, and is under way in development with storyboards in process and principle animation starting soon.
There’s no word on returning or new cast members, but with a great response (and a BILLION dollars) to the first film it’s safe to assume that most will be back. There’s no plot announced, but the post-credit tease at the end of the first film Illumination’s Chris Meledandri talking about expanding Mario’s “world” it’s likely we’ll see our favorite green dinosaur and its prehistoric environs show up in the sequel.
Which will land on April 3, 2026.
