Apes rule, humans drool
Admittedly, “Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes” is a weird title because it feels like it should just be “Kingdom of the Apes” or “Planet of the Kingdom of the Apes” but I’m also not in Marketing. I’m just a fan.
Either way, the massive trailer for the ginormous-looking new film in the Planet of the Apes series is set to perhaps kick off a new trilogy in a glorious way. Apes rule the world, generations have passed since Caesar tried and helped unite Ape and Human, and now Humanity is all but wiped out again. Proximus, the Alpha Ape in this film, has named himself King and aims to hunt and wipe out the last remaining humans. Things go sideways when one ape develops sympathy for one especially intelligent human and tries to rescue her. Does that premise sound familiar? That’s because we’ve now caught up to the original Planet of the Apes films in terms of timelines, and could mean that we’re about to finally see how all of the lead up to this new era plays out.
The trailer shows off the mammoth set pieces, battles, costumes, and apes that will be front and center in the film, and gets our fur to stand on end for it’s May release date.
