Xbox blows out new Starfield info, and promises fewer bugs (except space bugs)

It’s finally time for real gameplay, and it looks GOOD

At the Xbox Showcase and Starfield Direct this week, the companies revealed the biggest bunch of info yet for the massive game. It’s going to be bigger than Elder Scrolls in space, y’all.

First and foremost, we finally get to see some of that glorious gameplay. After comparing last year’s clips and this latest one, it’s safe to say that the 365 days have been very good to the game.

It’s important to note that the game will run at 30fps, and that’s likely because of the sheer scale and size, and that the studio is really, really trying to make sure this game has the fewest bugs of any Bethesda game yet. There’s over 1000 planets, with Todd Howard noting during the showcase that “see that moon, you can go to it” in the same vein of “see that mountain?” With so many planets, some of which will harbor massive amounts of life and story content, it’s likely going to make this the biggest Bethesda game yet. And, an all new animation system means that it aims to look smoother and better than all the Bethesda games that preceded it.

In the nearly hour-long gameplay deep dive, the company showed the many customization and character creation features, the weapons and the ship — which is fully customizable. The Direct also focused on the companions and crew that can be brought on board to help out. There’s even a “Traits” system that affects how players work through combat, in exploration, and even when interacting with fans — yep, that dude is back.

Missions can be taken on in different ways, space ports can affect and upgrade the ship differently, and players can even develop outposts to drop companions into across the universe.

It’s wild. There’s so much stuff.

Starfield launches in September for Xbox Series, Game Pass and PC, and we think we’ll be playing it forever.
