Summer Game Fest returning in 2024, I’m booking my hotel right now

The event returns in collaboration with iam8bit again

Prepare to head back to LA next year, friends and devs. Geoff Keighley has announced that Summer Game Fest will be back again for 2024.

The event, which held its 4th year this past weekend, has expanded past just a live stream to include a physical event in collaboration with iam8bit. This year’s event included hands-on for media with projects from publishers like SEGA and Square Enix, and games like Armored Core VI and Sonic Superstars. It was received well enough that we can look forward to it again next year.

All of this happens as E3’s existence is once again up in the air, with this year’s anticipated event canceled just a couple of months before it was set to take place.

From personal experience, there’s nothing that beats being in-person with a game. Projects like Square-Enix’s Foamstars and Ubisoft’s Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown didn’t showcase well in livestream presentations but were extremely well-received with hands on time. It also benefits to have face time with colleagues in the industry, as business relationships can spontaneously form in a hotel lobby bar or a showcase afterparty. It’s unknown if SGF’s Play Days will expand in size though — it already felt like it was at its limits this year, especially with the incredibly high prices to rent physical space.

Hey, anyone know if there’s a convention center available?
