It’s a new classic Sonic the Hedgehog
Not content with giant open world Sonic games, SEGA is taking the blue hedgehog back to its roots. Sonic Superstars has been announced today, during the Summer Game Fest livestream, and brings with it a retro-inspired return to the series. Platforming Sonic games aren’t necessarily that old (there seems to be a new one every other Sonic release) but this time the team behind it are focusing on a brand new art style. Most notably, though, are the updated body proportions for Sonic. Why is it so hard to make the dude look right?
Anyhoo, Sonic Superstars looks like a neat 2.5D return for the character as he picks up gems and jumps on enemies at top speed. It’s a 4-player co-op game for the first time, too, so expect some fighting over who gets to play as Sonic and Amy and who’s stuck as Tails or Knuckles. It’s hitting all platforms this Fall 2023.
