The Prince of Platforming brings a twist of cinema and a dash of magic
A few days after revealing the latest Prince of Persia, Ubisoft took to its Forward showcase to give us a deeper peak at the game’s gameplay, and it’s safe to say that it’s looking pretty dang good.
Heck, Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown looks better every time we see it. In today’s showcase, the publisher showed off how this game will lean into the series’ platforming past. The levels are set up for constant movement, jumping over and past obstacles and traps, often at high speed. It reminds me of some of the great level design in Rayman Legends, with the added abilities of zipping through some traps and being able to rewind time to solve others. The combat mixes ranged attacks and hacking & slashing with combos and finishers, and a whole lot of mysticism.
It all looks real good. REAL GOOD. A mix of nostalgia and modernity.
In the next video, the dev team discussed what it took to bring back Prince of Persia in a new (old) way, although they most definitely did not talk about the (probably dead) Sands of Time remake.
Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown arrives January 18, 2024 on every platform.
