Everyboooooody, 1-2 Switch tonight… or on June 30th
Huh.
Rumors of a 1-2 Switch sequel have been around for a while, but really kicked into high gear last year, when stories broke about the game being mired in development. It just wasn’t fun, at least according to SideQuesting’s own sources. It didn’t work as intended, and was boring when it did.
Much like the first game, Everybody 1-2 Switch was meant to be a collection of minigames that utilized the Joy-Con in novel ways. In the case of the sequel, players could also use their phones in case they didn’t have enough controllers. The hook was that the experience was more akin to Jackbox Party-like sessions, in which a host (wearing a rubber horse head) guided the players and teams to do silly things for points. A RUBBER HORSE HEAD.
Originally set to (supposedly) launch in August of last year, the playtesting went so bad that the game was also supposedly put on hold.
And then, out of the blue, Nintendo tweeted it.
There is quite literally no video, no screen images, nothing. Just a short description (it’s a collection of minigames that can be played via Joy-Con or phones) and a date: June 30th for $29.99. More info can be found at Nintendo’s eShop page for the game.
Nintendo just released tears of the Kingdom to massive sales and praise, and Pikmin 4 is on the way in July. But, the rest of the year is fairly blank. However, releasing this game now could mean that there may be something big dropping at the tail end of 2023, and it COULD even be announced very soon. Nintendo typically holds some kind of showcase of information (sometimes a Direct, sometimes something else) around the 2nd week of June. I’d keep an eye on June 13th if I were a betting man.
Anyhoo, to commemorate the launch of Everybody 1-2 Switch Nintendo ALSO revealed new pairs of colored Joy-Con, which are actually kind of nice colorways. Pastel in flavor, the two announced sets are Pink and Yellow, and Purple and Green.
Very snazzy, and perfect for the Summer.
Anyhoo, happy shadow drop season.
