LISA is a weird RPG and it’s finally coming to modern platforms

No, yeah, but no, but actually yeah, it’s LISA

LISA, from Dingaling Productions, is one of the more niche RPGs in existence. A sidescrolling game, it focuses heavily on mature themes — like loss, drug abuse, perversion, and more — to tell an engrossing and thought-provoking story. Set in a world where women have been wiped out, the game (series, actually) is notable for forcing the player to make tough choices, many that are often horrendous or able to tear their hearts out, and watching those choices affect the entire rest of the game. It’s wildly replayable because of that, as those decisions often gnaw at the player enough to have them second guess their own judgments.

The series is three episodes in length, and now the two final episodes (“The Painful” and “The Joyful”) are coming to modern gaming devices in new expanded versions. The “Definitive” editions will include new high fidelity art, alongside new music, new story arcs, sidequests, bosses, and more, as well as a slew of new endings.

It’s a wild gaming experience, and one that several of us on staff have circled around and fallen into for years. And now they’re back! Or, they will be. On July 18th, for Switch, PC, Xbox, and PlayStation.
