The next game in the excellent spin-off RPG series arrives in December
It’s been 7 years since the last Dragon Quest Monsters game graced us. DQM: Joker 3 was a fairly awesome game, putting the 3DS’ waning years on notice as an RPG powerhouse. But things have been quiet since then… too quiet.
Well shatter the glass, scream like a Dracky, and charge up the Switch: DQM is back! Announced during today’s Nintendo Direct, Square Enix revealed that Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince is launching on Nintendo’s console. We knew that a new game was in development (it was semi-revealed a couple of weeks back) but now we have firm details.
The Dark Prince stars Psaro, a cursed demon prince who needs to recruit, combine, and battle with famous Dragon Quest monsters in the land of Nadira on his quest to rule monster kind. The game will even put him face-to-face with the legendary Hero of Dragon Quest IV. World traversal is in 3D but battles are turn-based.
And did I mention hell yeah? Because hell yeah. The series is extremely satisfying to play, with more puzzle and narrative elements than Pokemon and in-line with Dragon Quest narratives.
Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince launches worldwide on December 1, 2023.
