Now there are FOUR dragons — a DOUBLE DOUBLE
Double Dragon has a long, long history in gaming. It’s one of the grandfathers of arcade beat’em ups, and even the NES games have been beloved. It hasn’t gone too well since the Eighties, though, as we’ve been subjected to a long line of offshoots and a horrible “sequel” in Double Dragon 4. But hey, Double Dragon Neon is actually kind of excellent — we’re just mad that not enough people played it.
Anyhoo, there’s ANOTHER Double Dragon game on the way. Double Dragon Gaiden: Rise of the Dragons is putting a lot of emphasis on MULTIPLE DRAGONS. This latest game will take the familiar brawler series and angle it more towards something that’s almost cartoon-like in design. Featuring pixel art and isometric backgrounds, pairs of players will fight on a stage from left to right, beating up enemies and bosses and collecting loot. The addition of an overworld map and upgrades will fit the game within the genre’s more modern take, and the addition of two new characters (Marian and Matin) will let players have a choice of how they want to tackle the levels.
The game is being developed by Secret Base, who were the team behind Streets of Red: Devil’s Dare Deluxe, and is due this Summer for all console and PC platforms.
