There’s a lot of warring in the stars on the way
It’s been a hectic week of film news. Not only is the Super Mario Bros Movie the biggest film of the year so far, but it’s also the eve of blockbuster season and all of our favorite shows are hitting their yearly peaks right about now (we see you, Succession). With that being said, there’s plenty to look forward to in the (very near) future.
The newest Pokemon series, Horizons, debuts later this week in Japan. The series picks up after Ash’s incredible run as the lead of the show, bringing along an all-new cast, too. The full, official trailer is finally here.
DC’s Blue Beetle finally gets its first trailer, too. The film will star Cobra Kai’s Xolo Maridueña as he takes on the role of the character. It’ll seem to carry a Spider-man vibe along with it, which may be what DC really needs right not to get fans back in theaters after the Shazam 2 disaster. Blue Beetle arrives August 18th.
Across the Spider-Verse has a brand new trailer out as well. The upcoming film, arriving June 2, shows even more Spider-people in the latest clip. And the Inheritors! Woohoo!
The new Barbie movie trailer continues to show a wild take on the character. It’s almost like a multiverse itself, with several Barbies, Kens, and even Allen. It lands in theaters and our hearts in July.
Star Wars Celebration brought a ton of news and videos this weekend, including the first teaser trailer for the Ahsoka series that’s hitting Disney+ in August.
Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny got a new trailer as well, and it showed Indy doing Indy stuff. It’s out in June, which is not too far away!
Back to Star Wars, news was revealed in full for upcoming projects:
- The Acolyte is in full production, and will finally show a live action High Republic for the first time, and will show us a TON of Jedi when it lands in 2024
- Andor‘s second (and final) season will land in August 2024
- Skeleton Crew will also land in 2024 as Jude Law leads a troop of young Jedi
- James Mangold’s untitled Star Wars film was announced, and will take place with the very first Jedi at the start of the Star Wars timeline
- The Mandalorian’s Dave Filoni will direct a film that takes place during the time period of the Mandalorian (between Return of the Jedi and Force Awakens)
- Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy will direct a Star Wars film that follows Daisy Ridley’s Rey Skywalker as she rebuilds the Jedi. It takes place 15 years after the conclusion of Rise of Skywalker
A few more movie notes popped up this week:
- The Minecraft movie (which will star Jason Momoa, for some reason) will arrive April 4, 2025, according to Deadline
- The Five Nights at Freddy’s movie will hit theaters and streaming this October 27th, 2023
- Legendary Pictures have picked up the rights to Street Fighter, so expect movies and TV projects in the near future [Source]
