From Twisted Metal to Transformers, it was a busy geek week
Cinemacon has been an annual powerhouse in delivering movie and project news, and this year was no different. Everyone from WB to Disney to Sony revealed info on projects — so we’ve collected some of our favorites.
The Twisted Metal series, starring Anthony Mackie, is on the way this July to Peacock and Sony dropped that teaser trailer above. Reminder: you’ll need to start paying for Peacock after the beginning of May when Comcast pulls it from your Xfinity subscription.
Transformers: Rise of the Beasts got a hot new trailer ahead of its June release. It takes place in the 90s, so good luck trying to fit it into the Transformers movie timeline — it doesn’t! But it at least looks kind of cool.
Disney’s Wish is fully into the 100 year celebration of the company, tying a lot of the classic Disney animation and themes into new and more modern storytelling and visuals. It looks pretty great! Expect it in November.
The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes is the kickoff of a new prequel for the popular films and books. Set 64 years before the events of the Hunger Games proper, the movie will tell the origins of Snow and his tyrannical plans. It’s also hitting theaters in November.
We’ve big Black Mirror fans and it’s been AGES since the last season of the show. Now, in a bit of a surprise, the newest season is finally dated — June on Netflix! We even got a trailer!
Speaking of Netflix, we have our first teaser for Henry Cavill’s final season as Geralt on The Witcher. The show returns in two parts, at the end of June & end of July, with the Wild Hunt in tow.
Finally, here are a few more delicious tidbits for some of the entertainment news this week that matters most to us:
- Vampire Survivors is getting an animated series! It’s being produced by Story Kitchen. No date yet. [Deadline]
- Transformers: One is a previously announced animated prequel film that’s hitting theaters July 19, 2024, and now a cast has started forming around it. It’ll feature Chris Hemsworth as young Optimus Prime, Brian Tyree Henry as young Megatron, and Scarlett Johansson as Elita and tell the story of how the Allspark became a thing.
- Dune Part Two, coming later this year, will serve as a romance and revenge story, as Timothee Chalamet’s Paul Atreides and Zendaya’s Chani get their love affair off the ground, while also leading a rebellion. It’s due November 3, 2023.
- Oh, and there’s a new Street Fighter movie on the way, and it’s being handled by the Directors of the upcoming horror film Talk to Me, Danny and Michael Philippou. I hope they make Guile undead in this one. [THR]
