New game from Embers aims to cast an ethereal glow
Strayed Lights, the upcoming new game from developer Embers, certainly seems to shimmer in its newest gameplay trailer. I had the chance to play a timed demo of the game recently (now released to the public via Steam) and enjoyed what I got my hands on. The game, an action adventure that stars a quickly growing — and glowing! — flame, asks us to shine a light on an increasingly dark world. The demo (and gameplay in the trailer above) features quick and often intense action combat as we make our way through several unique biomes. The thematic use of light is everywhere, from the subtle ethereal glow of an aurora to the flicker of a flame to the almost Tron-like contrast of light and dark.
The combat seems to hold its own, but it’s the visuals and audio (with a score by Austin WIntory) that could strike the strings of players.
Strayed Lights arrives on April 25th, 2023 for all major platforms. We’ll go more in depth with the game at PAX East next week, so stay tuned for our thoughts.
