Google celebrates Jerry Lawson with a wonderful interactive Doodle

The Father of the video game cartridge remembered on his birthday

The late Jerry Lawson, one of the early Fairchild engineers, is regarded as being the father of the video game cartridge. Without him game consoles wouldn’t exist in the capacity they do today, or for the 40 years prior. For his 82nd birthday Google is celebrating his legacy with a fantastic Google Doodle dedicated to the art of early video game development.

Clicking the Doodle starts a 2D platforming game that talks a little about his influence before transitioning into a full DIY video game maker — complete with some pre-made games.

It’s great bit of history, and a terrific way to honor one of gaming’s most important people. Head to GOOGLE to check it out.
