Sonic is making another trip to your gaming devices
In case you don’t already own Sonic the Hedgehog 40 times, SEGA wants to make sure you buy it again. The company has revealed its Sonic Origins collection is heading to platforms on June 23rd. The collection, which brings together the 2D Sonic games Sonic The Hedgehog, Sonic The Hedgehog 2, Sonic 3 & Knuckles, and Sonic CD, will present the games in a sort of remastered view, updating the look for modern screens. It also allows for the ability to play as the characters across any of the games, so our dreams of Knuckles in Sonic 1 return.
But, it’s the same 4 games, just now packaged together and cleaned up.
What’s actually bizarre is how the most enticing new content in the collection is actually integrated as DLC and behind different tiers. The Start Dash Pack, Premium Fun Pack and Classic Music Pack are locked behind paywalls, and the two tiers of the game (Standard & Digital Deluxe) don’t even contain the full contents of each DLC that they’re meant to include.
It’s a weird design choice, and one that will certainly confuse fans who may want to try the whole package. Good luck!
Sonic Origins launches for PlayStation, Xbox, Switch, and PC on June 23rd.
