VanillaWare’s original RPG makes a triumphant return
As fans of both Odin Sphere and Muramasa, and firmly about to jump into 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim on the Switch, many of us unfortunately missed VanillaWare’s original hand painted RPG (artPG?) release GrimGrimoire on the PS2. Now, the game is coming back for second run 15 years later.
NISA and VanillaWare have revealed that GrimGrimoire OnceMore, a remaster of that original, is on the way. The game draws inspiration from Harry Potter and Star Craft, starring a young witch and her familiars as they face wave after wave of enemies. The new version will add enhanced visuals, speedier gameplay elements, art galleries, and a new skill tree system for the familiars.
It’s only been announced for Japan thus far, but with the popularity of VanillaWare games growing outside of Japan, we imagine that a Western release isn’t too far behind. GrimGrimoire OnceMore arrives on PS4 & Switch on July 28, 2022.
