The Summer of Gaming just got a little lighter
EA has revealed to IGN that its annual event, EA Play Live, will not be taking place this year. The event, which spun off from E3 several years ago to become its own thing, eventually shifted from E3 week to later in the Summer, revealing new games and big updates for popular EA franchises like sports! and shooters! and other such things.
Not this year, though. The statement share below lets fans know that the company will be sharing news on an individual title basis. This likely means that we’ll see more of projects like Dead Space, Dragon Age, Mass Effect, etc on their own or in shows like E3 (if that happens) and Summer Game Fest.
We love EA Play Live as it’s our way of connecting with our players and sharing what’s new with all of you. However, this year things aren’t lining up to show you everything on one date. We have exciting things happening at our world-class studios and this year we’ll reveal much more about these projects when the time is right for each of them. We look forward to spending time with you throughout the year!
In reality, the company probably doesn’t have a whole ton of major new projects to show off at the moment — you can rely on the Sims and sports to carry you only so far, and with their Star Wars exclusivity license simmering down there isn’t a bunch of projects they can show off. Plus, everything else is still pretty far away. Last year’s show focused mostly on Battlefield 2042, and that game has hit bumps in popularity.
Anyhoo, taking time off is never a bad thing.
