Sony gives deep dive into Gran Turismo 7’s giant world
During a special State of Play today, Sony popped the hood on a trove of new information about its upcoming Gran Turismo 7, turning over some of the comments about lack of content in last gen’s GT Sport.
The presentation shined its headlights onto the expansive World Map, showing off several of the returning and new locations players can expect to find. Players can navigate around the world for races to build up their license and fill their garage, or they can park their butts at the new Car Cafe. The Cafe is where players can fill their tanks with car knowledge from industry luminaries like designer Freeman Thomas, or they can glance over a menu and fulfill tasks to unlock cars.
Brand Central is where players can rev up their taste buds for new cars, while dealerships for Used Cars and Legendary Cars will let them shift their vehicle preference, with the key being having enough in-game credits to do so.
The game brings 34 locations with 97 different track layouts to fuel variety in the races, and with over 400 cars at launch it’ll be difficult to get tired of the scale of content. It’s no spoiler to say that the typical amount of Gran Turismo customization returns, with tuning and aesthetic parts available to harness the full potential of a car. That, plus the local split-screen and online multiplayer modes, will give plenty of mileage to the new gameplay mechanics centered around weather, day/night cycles, and road behavior.
One major caveat that could be an engine for discussion is that the majority of the game’s features might be gated behind online connectivity, so players may need to have a speedy network connection to go full throttle with what the game can offer.
You can to drive a little deeper into all of these details by rolling up to the video above.
Gran Turismo 7 races up to the finish line on March 24, 2022, on both PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5.
