Ubisoft Toronto handling development
After VR and mobile took over the franchise and its IP, Splinter Cell is on its way back. Ubisoft revealed that a remake of the game is in the early stages of development. While it may focus on the beginnings of the series, the development team has noted that it will draw inspiration from aspects throughout the title’s legacy and history.
Ubisoft has ventured into big, bold, open worlds in their games as of late, but the Splinter Cell series has typically been more focused and intentional — something that fans have come to love and that has been a key differentiator.
There are no release dates or platforms announced, but the game *will* be developed on the company’s Snowdrop engine, which is its heavyweight backbone for much of its upcoming mega-games like Avatar and its Star Wars project.
