How far would you go to get a Nintendo in the 80s?
That’s the question New Line Cinema asks in the first trailer for 8-Bit Christmas, it’s new holiday film. The movie, which is set to debut on HBO Max on November 24th, tells the tale of an 11 yr old boy and his friends in the 80s as they strive to try and win the ultimate prize every kid wanted: a Nintendo Entertainment System.
Back in those days, video games weren’t quite as accepted as they are now, and consoles cost an arm and a leg to purchase. The “cool kid” was the one whose parents could afford to buy them an NES, and they were then forced to host Friday night game nights in their basement. HBO’s holiday themed movie takes us back to that era, complete with Power Gloves and bad haircuts, as they hope to catch the wave of nostalgia that is running around.
Neil Patrick Harris plays the adult version of said boy, narrating the story to his own daughter, and Winslow Fegley plays the 80s star.
