COVID-19 cited as major factor in game’s push back
EA and DICE have revealed that their giant Q4 release, Battlefield 2042, was getting a delay. Rumors had been floating around for a few weeks now, heating up in recent days when our truest friend Jeff Grubb (Hi, Jeff!) reported that a delay of another game was imminent, and that was likely Battlefield 2042 by a matter of weeks and not months. He turned out to be right:
The delay is four weeks, from October 22nd to November 19th, and still puts it in that crucial Black Friday shopping spree that results in yearly gains. The companies noted the effects of COVID-19, as returning to work in a similar way to pre-pandemic just wasn’t happening, and was affecting their timing justly.
Battlefield V also suffered a similar delay from its initial October 2018 date to November 2018, and it turned out just fine — although the EA stocks took a tumble because of it, and, unsurprisingly, because of today’s speculation and news as well.
