They chose violence
Spider-man Day is a fan-made online thing that takes place every August 1st, and while fans were hopped up on the character’s universe Sony took the opportunity to drop a new trailer for its upcoming Venom sequel. The latest clip for Let There Be Carnage may be the one that finally gives us a real idea as to what the film is about. Sure, we knew that Woody Harrelson’s take on Carnage was the main antagonist in the film, but we weren’t quite sure how we would get there, or even how much he would lean into the character.
It turns out, it’s a lot.
Harrelson plays serial murderer Cletus Cassidy, who is interviewed by Tom Hardy’s journalist lead Eddie Brock for just long enough to get some of the space virus stuck in his blood (in a gross way — just watch the video). The result is a hellish mix of personalities, and one that’s incredibly violent and bloody, far beyond what we may have ever seen from a cape & cowl comic movie outside of the older Punisher films.
It’s going to be really interesting to see how much of Carnage ends up remaining in the Spider-verse once Spider-man eventually crosses over somehow.
Venom: Let There Be Carnage arrives in the Fall.
