Color shifting controller features new rubberized grips
Microsoft is having a blast with its Xbox controller colorways this year, launching neon green, Space Jam, and Design Lab variants. Now, it has perhaps its more ambitious color variation yet. The Aqua Shift Special Edition controller is an ocean blue base, with the added feature of a shimmering automotive-style color flop. This gives the controller a shifting warmer highlight as it is turned and used, and almost glows in the hand.
While the new color is nice and all, an updated grip area may be the better benefactor. Likely because the shifting paint isn’t the most heavy-use friendly, Microsoft has opted to give the grip area a rubberized makeover, complete with a cloudy print. This will make the controller that much easier to handle, as the surface area of a rubberized zone is optimal grippage. There, I said it: grippage.
The Aqua Shift Special Edition will be available for the standard $69.99 price point at retailers later this month, and available for preorders today.
