Aloy to likely miss 2021 launch
Back in May, Sony revealed a big chunk of gameplay for Guerrilla Games’ upcoming Horizon Forbidden West game. While what they showed look great, and had fans extremely hyped, the companies were careful not to explicitly adhere to their original 2021 launch plans.
Now we may know why.
Over the last several months, rumors of a delay had started to permeate the internet, and now SideQuesting superfan Jeff Grubb has dropped some new tidbits about the story. During his GrubbSnax show on Giant Bomb (paywall), the journalist brought up the news, noting that sources indicate the game is likely being pushed back into Q1 2022. Since then, Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier has corroborated the information, noting that the delay is essentially a “done deal.” Grubb stated that the official news could arrive in a September livestream from Sony detailing whatever they have left for 2021. Hint: if you’re looking for original first party content, that well may be running a bit dry.
With COVID still in full effect, planning around original launch dates has been difficult, and certainly the focus should be on making sure staff is healthy and safe above all, and that game quality is at the best it can be.
Whatever the case may be, Horizon Forbidden West can come out whenever it’s good and ready.
