New clips tease upcoming games and more
Hot on the heels of Monster Hunter Rise and Monster Hunter Stories 2, as well as last year’s live-action Monster Hunter movie starring Milla Jovovich comes Monster Hunter: Legends of the Guild. And it sure is a thing. The CGI animated film takes a character from Monster Hunter World & Monster Hunter 4, as well as elements from the rest of the series, to bring a sort of “complete” look at what MonHun is. The visual style of the film may seem a little much, going hard to the realistic whereas the games have always had elements of style to them (especially Stories). Regardless, it’s hitting Netflix on August 12th. You’ve been warned.
Here’s the synopsis:
A young man named Aiden, who calls himself a hunter, protects his isolated village. One day, he learns that his village is threatened by an Elder Dragon, a monster cloaked in mystery. Needing to find a way to save his village, Aiden leaves his home and sets off on a journey into the unknown alongside Julius, a first-rate hunter and member of the Hunter’s Guild, and his companions…
Meanwhile another gaming franchise, CD Projekt Red’s The Witcher, is hitting Netflix throughout this year in a more traditional anime and live action pairing.
The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf premieres August 23 and will serve as a prequel to the TV series. It’s being done by the same studio behind Legend of Korra, which was greaaaaaat. The show will center around Vesemir.
Meanwhile, The Witcher’s proper Season 2 will hit December 17th on the service, and Netflix opted to drop a new teaser trailer in the process.
They’ve even dropped several behind the scenes looks, which have been giving good views of the show.
This year’s Mortal Kombat movie reboot was met with some decent reviews, but that’s not stopping NetherRealm from pushing more of the IP into our faces. Mortal Kombat Legends: Battle Of The Realms is the upcoming anime film based on the games. It’s the second in the past year, too, so you’re getting some good animated violence in the mix where you want it. It’s directed by Ethan Spaulding, and premieres on VOD and disc on August 31st.
On to actual games, Psychonauts 2 is landing on August 25th and brings with it a bunch of previews this week as well as a new story trailer. It’s been a long time, but we’re almost there!
In a world that’s lost its creator, demons are running wild and it’s up to a hero to stop the downfall of man. At least, that’s what the story trailer for Shin Megami Tensei V seems to tell us. The game launches in November for Nintendo Switch.
Animated trailers are always a blast to watch, at the very least giving us new thematic looks at upcoming games. United Label and developer Fallen Flag Studio have just dropped a new trailer for Eldest Souls, its boss rush “Souls-like” that promises tough battles and big rewards. The game hits platforms on July 29th.
Apex Legends’ next battler is Seer, and the company dropped a neat animated story trailer detailing the character’s history. More info on the character’s launch is coming this week.
Finally, Devolver Digital and developer Acid Nerve have just given us a new trailer for their upcoming project Death’s Door. The video is a deeper look at the gameplay of the action RPG. More info, including story information, will be revealed this week.
