The co-op shooter may be the direction the franchise needs in gaming
Cold Iron Studios has been hard at work on Aliens: Fireteam Elite for nearly 6 years now, and while Alien: Isolation was grabbing headlines during that time it allowed the dev to make something very different. Yes, it still involves the Xenomorph beasts of the movie franchise, but much like the thematic shift from the original film to its sequel, Fireteam moves away from one-on-one alien terror to the multiplayer shoot-em-up that the second film touched on.
There’s still fear — the Xenomorphs are still hella dangerous on their own let alone in hordes — but now with teammates at our side it’s a little more manageable. The game tasks players with taking on a hive of the monsters, with character customization and survival skills being key to the experience.
Aliens: Fireteam Elite launches on PlayStation, Xbox, and PC Steam on August 24th.
