Woody Harrelson joins the cast as the terrifying red villain
Venom is technically a part of the Marvel-adjacent movie universe that Sony is building with its Spider-brands. The production house has toed the line a bit between the worlds, but the relative dark nature of Venom’s character (and the upcoming Morbius film) means that the company can do some wild things without really needing to adhere to marvel’s character standards. With that said, Sony is *really* taking that darkness to a whole new level with Let There Be Carnage, the sequel to the decent Tom Hardy-starring superhero film.
Carnage, played by Harrelson, is a sadistically evil offshoot symbiote of Venom’s kind, and attached to Harrelson’s character means that that the damage could be ratcheted up to unspeakable levels. In the big new trailer, we also get some hints of Venom’s own more “laid back” approach to life (relatively speaking) as it/he becomes more intertwined in Hardy’s life. It seems to understand humanity a bit more, so some comedic elements pop out here and there.
The first film was OKAY. This one will likely fall in that same space, but right now anything that lets us chow on popcorn could be appreciated a bit more.
Venom: Let There be Carnage arrives this year in theaters.
