But what will they do with Skype?
“Discord is now a part of Microsoft Teams!”
I’m half expecting that information window to pop up the next time I log into my favorite real-time social network. Reports across the web have Discord potentially up for IPO or for sale, with Microsoft as one of the potential suitors. The company, which has gone on an M&A bender of late, is turning its sights onto the popular social media network to better develop and grow its communities. Adding Discord to places like the already existing Microsoft Teams, which is popular across corporate and educational systems after having replaced the aging Skype, could bring it that next level of interaction to gaming that it sorely needs. After all, it couldn’t accomplish that feat with Mixer over the last few years before shutting down that service, but Discord already has a strong presence online in places outside of gaming.
The amount that Discord could be asking for? $10 Billion. That’s Billion with the biggest B.
