The Pokemon GO developer will bring more of Nintendo’s IP to mobile
Pokemon GO is still one of the biggest video games on the planet, wrecking the mobile charts for over a billion dollars a year since 2016. Though other mobile AR games have popped up, none have been even remotely successful. Now, Niantic Labs and Nintendo are teaming up for more projects that the AR company will help create.
The first of those is based on Pikmin.
The companies announced the news today, noting that the game, which will arrive later in 2021, is just the first of several new apps that the companies will collaborate on. Pokemon GO is actually handled by one of Nintendo’s subsidiary joint ventures, The Pokemon Company, but now it looks like Niantic is heading straight to the source material.
While no other games have been announced, nor details about what the Pikmin AR game would be like, the possibilities are endless for the Kyoto-based company’s properties. We can imagine a Legend of Zelda dungeon hunting game, or a Mario Kart LIVE iteration on mobile, or heck, even Splatoon, with players covering their neighborhoods with their team’s ink colors.
ENDLESS, we tell you!
