Sony is creating a true next-gen option for VR
Though it may not have sounded promising at first when the next gen/current gen launched in late 2020, Sony has reiterated that virtual reality is still a part of its plan. The company has revealed that it is working on a new VR headset/system for its PS5.
Hideaki Nishino, PlayStation’s Senior Vice President, Platform Planning & Management, shared the news today on the PlayStation blog. Up until now, the PSVR was compatible with the PS5 but only through the use of an adapter, and would cause issues with some Blu Rays through data protection. Now, the second PSVR will be designed for the PS5 from the ground up.
Noted takeaways:
- Single cord connection, instead of the plethora of HDMI & USB cords of the current PSVR
- Higher resolution screens
- Increased field of view
- New controller, based on the DualSense technology
The device isn’t releasing in 2021, but dev kits are already out there and developers are working on projects.
