The next New Horizons update finally gives us fast travel
As the Super Mario Bros. 35th Anniversary continues, Nintendo is finding more ways to spread the series out into other ventures. The latest is a collaboration with Animal Crossing: New Horizons, which will see Mario-themed items and events come to the island.
Nintendo teased the news last month when they announced the Valentine’s Day/Festivale update, and took time during this week’s Direct to give the first look. The update will bring Mario-themed items like clothing, hats, stars, and even question blocks to place around the island. Coming up to a block will even mimic bouncing up an hitting it.
However, the most important update could possibly be the addition of a warp pipe, which players can place around the island. Hopping into one end will let them pop up in another, allowing for fast travel to make traversal that much easier. It’ll be a godsend.
Surprisingly, it’ll also likely add a completely new toolset for players who make games and events of their own in Animal Crossing. Imagine a giant maze on the island, navigated only via warp pipe.
The update will be available on February 25th, with the items available for purchase starting March 1st for a limited time.
