Anthem’s Next stop will be in the back of gaming history books
Anthem is no more. The troubled shooter, which BioWare launched in 2019, was almost immediately met with quality issues, prompting a quick push for updates and an eventual return to the drawing board for what would be known in-development as Anthem Next (or Anthem 2.0). The hope was that with some time, Anthem would live up to the expectations set forth by the (fairly extravagant) launch trailers and hype, and the fans that ate it all up.
That hope has been dashed, as the developer took to the web today to detail that Anthem is no longer going to be worked on. Though COVID took a toll on the year, it was the massive levels of development needed to resolve fundamental issues that likely were the downfall of the game. Instead, the talent will be redeployed to work on Dragon Age, Mass Effect and other projects.
RIP Anthem. We never knew you.
