We hope you had some plans ready to go as a fallback. With the new year finally upon us, and the pandemic still rearing its ugly, ugly head, projects across the entertainment world are hitting snags. Perhaps it’s better to delay things right now than to make promises that can’t be met (you hear us, Cyberpunk?) as studios around the world are coming to grips with updating their release schedules.
On the gaming front, development has been affected, and so release dates aren’t necessarily changing to capitalize on cash flow, but to finalize the products. Here are the bullet points:
- Riders Republic (Ubisoft) February 25th –> Later this year
- The Lord of the Rings: Gollum (Daedalic Entertainment/Nacon) 2021 –> 2022
- Hogwarts Legacy (WB Games) 2021 –> 2022
- Outriders (People Can Fly/Square Enix) February 2 –> April 1
- Returnal (Housemarque/SIE) March 19 –> April 30
The movie industry is a bit more chaotic. Because they tend to release in theaters, revenue is tied to landing a film at the right time. Many of these films are closer to completion, but want to make sure that there are enough people in buildings to actually see them (streaming notwithstanding).
Here are those updates:
- Uncharted (Sony) July 2021 –> 2022
- Ghostbusters: Afterlife (Sony) June 2021 –> October 2021
- Morbius (Sony) October 2021 –> January 2022
- The King’s Man (20th Century) March 2021 –> August 20, 2021
- A Quiet Place Part II (Paramount) April 2021 –> September 17, 2021
- James Bond: No Time to Die (Sony) April 2021 –> October 2021
- Godzilla vs Kong (Legendary/WB) March 26, 2021 –> March 31, 2021
- The Batman (DC/WB) October 2021 –> March 4, 2022
